Meet the ASB Co-President Candidates
-
Paige Mumma & Bradley Jenkins
ASB Co-Presidents
Paige: To me, "Every Knight Counts" means that every teacher, student, administrator and staff member working at San Marcos High School matters. Each person has an important role in order to make sure our school is the best it can be. Teachers help students learn, administrators make sure everyone is safe and heard, staff members make the school itself run smoothly, and students make the school unique. Without a group of people, or even one individual, San Marcos High School lacks what makes it special.
Bradley: I would say every knight count to me means that there is something on this campus that makes each and every person in the school feel special or at home. Being able to check more than just the main boxes that satisfy the large population of our school, by being able to include every single student. Whether it’s through interest of sports, clubs, classes, events, etc, Also I would say no one person should be excluded or favored from anything that consists on our campus. Just because you have a group of people you like doesn’t mean you treat everyone else with disrespect. Being able to still treat others at our school the same as everyone else and realize you are not better than anyone because of this , this, and this. Then to realize each student has the same labeled price to who they are,. Even with a well given opportunity to make your self well known we all serve the same purpose of being a knight and all should be recognized, equalized, and excepted. We shouldn’t be seen as separate but almost like a family!

To me, "Every Knight Counts" means that no matter your background, who your friends are, your grades, or anything else, you are still apart of the student body and matter in the bigger picture.

Dale Fussell
ASB Vice President
Every Knight Counts means to me that we are continually doing our best in realizing and attempting to reach out to every student to show that their voice truly does matter. This is a topic that I truly believe in and have made it one of my missions to help foster this at SMHS. I think that Every Knight Counts is the effort behind everything that we do to be inclusive to every person on campus and when we maybe don't hit a certain group or have individuals or groups feeling left out we not only try to rectify that we make an active attempt to learn from our mistakes or pitfalls to be a better community and better leaders.

Ava Grace Cordero
ASB Vice President
Every Knight Counts is one of the most complex mottos that we have created. One way that I have interpreted this motto, is that it means celebrating every single: student, staff member, admin, security guard, and person within San Marcos High School. No matter their race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc. everyone on our campus and community should feel like they belong within the Knight Family. In ASB, anyone in our program can make a difference no matter if they have a leadership title. Another way I have interpreted this motto is Every Knight Counts is similar to the saying of how "Every Night/Day Counts." This transported me back to how I was as a freshman thinking that high school wasn't going to go by that fast. Even though now that I am a rising Senior, it feels just like yesterday I was that anxious 8th grade student entering a big modern glass building. Being in ASB, I have found an appreciation and excitement for all of the fun events that happen on campus. ASB has challenged me to get involved and build connections with my peers on campus. Our ASB should continue to follow this motto with the way we represent our program.

Meet the San Marcos ASB SMUSD Student Board Representative Candidates
-
Sydney Corke
Student Board Representative
Every Knight Counts emphasizes being inclusive to every student at our school. This can apply to several events at our school these events could be: including students in social events, analyzing every Knights perspective on surveys, and providing proper accommodations for all students, ect. The slogan "Every Knight Counts" resonates with me as I am a leader in the RSVP program at our school. In RSVP our main goal is student voice, and letting all students be heard. Our program facilitates changes at our school and nothing would be possible if every Knight didn't voice what changes needed to be made to improve our school environment.

To me, "Every Knight Counts" has a double meaning. To me it means making the most of all the opportunities your community has presented you , but also not forgetting to give back to your community and uplift those around you. This idea is meaningful to me because it is a major factor in why I choose to be involved in my community. Since a young age I have been involved in programs like Girl Scouts and ASB Leadership, which have given me the opportunity to learn and grow as a leader. These opportunities were my way of making the most of what was available to me. At the same time, being involved in programs like this has made me appreciate people who contribute to and give back to their community. This is why I strive to do this in my own community. I am involved in programs where I am able to be a mentor to other people in my community, like Link Crew, Avid, Girl Scouts, and the Changers Organization. I strive to be a servant leader whose goal is to learn and grow so that they can better serve their community and uplift the people around them.
Meet the ASB Equity & Diversity Director Candidates
-
Erik Alvarez
Equity & Diversity Director
"Every Knight Counts" symbolizes how every single day, all of us at SMHS have the ability to make a positive impact, not only to our campus, but to ourselves as well. Our school allows every one of us to shine in our own diverse way, allowing us to grow and develop our own passions. Personally, I believe that with having such a diverse school with almost four thousand students, it becomes hard to be recognized for individual achievements and struggles. The phrase "Every Knight Counts" emphasizes that our campus acknowledges how we all have different stories and upbringings, which deserve and should be given a spotlight.

Tehjas Sobti
Equity & Diversity Director
What Every Knight Counts means to me is that everybody at our campus should feel represented and included in some way. Whether it be about their culture/background, or their sport/extracurricular, they should feel that they are being represented at our school and that there is a place for them to be included.
-
Brianna Burgos
Equity & Diversity Director
Every knight counts to me means that everyone is SMHS opinions matter and that the all have a place here at our school. Every knight counts is a lifestyle as well and we should always include our fellow knights to participate and feel welcomed at school.
